The Training Section has the responsibility for planning,
conducting, and coordinating all initial and continuing
training for Sheriff's Office personnel. In this role,
the Training Section serves as the primary liaison between
the Sheriff's Office and the Peace Officer Standards and
Training Council and any of the state or regional training
academies to which our personnel may attend training.
The Training Section also assists in the monitoring and
assessment of the performance of Sheriff's Office personnel,
as it relates to the efficiency of the training provided.
Personnel assigned to the Training Section are either
instructors or students undergoing training. Along
with training personnel, the Training Section also works in
support to the other operational divisions o the Sheriff's
Office in an effort to deliver instruction and assistance to
all personnel.
Deputies are required to attend at least 20 hours of
training annually, with certain classes being mandatory to
retain their certification. The Sheriff's Office has
several certified instructors to ensure training is not an
issue. Sworn Sheriff's Office employees train on
various subjects such as defensive tactics, firearms,
chemical agents, and security issues. Training in some
form is required of all employees. Frequently there
are classes that are required of every Sheriff's Office
employee. These may include training on different
forms of harassment, ethics, computer training, and subjects
such as first aide and CPR.
