The Explorer Program is a division of the Boy Scouts of
America. The primary goal of Explorer Post is to promote
good citizenship, to build character and introduce young
people to a potential career in law enforcement. Young
adults, who range in age from 14 to 20 years old, may apply
for membership. All applicants must undergo a background
check and recommendations from their principals, teachers,
counselors and other references. In addition, explorers
must maintain a “B” average in school, along with good
attendance and good conduct. Explorers receive uniforms and
law enforcement type training. The Post trains for and
competes in various competitions around the state and
region. Competitions most often involve normal law
enforcement tasks such as Traffic Stops, Making Arrests, and
Crime Scene Investigation, just to name a few. Explorers
also assist the Youth Education and Safety Section with its
various Community Service and Safety programs. In addition,
the Explorers have FUN going on camping trips, white water
rafting and social events like Explorer Conferences and
other outings.
